HealthCare.gov
HealthCare.gov is designed to help individuals and families obtain affordable health insurance. Your household may be eligible for financial assistance depending on household size and income.

In order to qualify, an individual must sign up during the Open Enrollment period; however, could still be eligible in the event of a qualifying life event, such as changing jobs, getting married or divorced, moving, etc.  The Certified Application Counselor can help determine if you are eligible and find the best plan.

Medicare
Individuals can start the Medicare enrollment process as early as 3 months before their 65th birthday.  The initial enrollment period will end 3 months after 65th birthday (7 months total for your initial enrollment period).

Consumers who postpone enrolling into their Medicare Part A and/or Part B will have a general election period to start their original Medicare from January 1st – March 31st, but coverage will not begin until July 1st and may have to pay higher premium rates due to the late enrollment.

There are different scenarios you could choose to get your Medicare coverage, but the decisions are based on what is right for you in your situation.

     > Part A (Hospitalization coverage) – applies to most individuals
     > Part B (Medical coverage) – applies to most individuals
     > Part D (Prescription Drug coverage) – supplemental plan to cover gaps in coverage
     > Medicare recipients can also opt for a Medicare Advantage Plan.

Medicare annual open enrollment is October 15, 2023 – December 7, 2023, and the changes will take effect starting January 1st of the following year.  You may be eligible to purchase health insurance outside of the open enrollment if you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.

The OHHC Certified Application Counselors are also Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP) volunteers and can assist you. Call Denise McBurney at (740) 239-7447, ext. 1035.
